FHSWIN - Introduction (continued)
This part of the introduction briefly describes each of the FHSWIN Main Menu Options.
Click on one of the option buttons above to see a description of the program options in that group.
The Utilities Main Menu option allows you to perform some operations that are not directly related to presenting information from a Family File. The sub-options that can be chosen from the drop-down menu are:
| Customization | This option allows you to make changes to the system Configuration file and view the contents of the System TABLES file and MESSAGES file. |
| Export/Import | This provides options for processing GEDCOM files for Exporting/Importing information to share with other software or, perhaps, for rebuilding an existing FHS Family File. You can also export information into MailMerge (CSV or Comma Separated Variable) files for use by other types of software (word processor or spreadsheet). |
| Family File Validation | This provides options for checking a Family File for conditions that may indicate errors. The types of Validation are Pointer, Family Data and Duplicate Data. |
| Conversion | This provides options for incorporating features (Long Address Format, Long Place Names) into a Family File that may not have had those options when it was originally initialized. |
| Calculator | This provides access to two utilities: a Date Calculator and a Relationship Calculator. |
| Index File | This provides an option to create INDEX files of record identifiers that allow you to process records in a Sorted Sequence (for example by Surname, Given Name, Birth Date, etc.) |
| Tiny Tafel | This allows you to produce a report of Surnames of interest to you in a format that was proposed in a Genealogical Computing magazine long ago. |
